Time is precious.
That’s why many of us are willing to pay for speedy, dependable delivery.
Amazon Prime has led the e-commerce scene for well over a decade. Retailer Walmart launched a rival option, Walmart Plus, in 2020.
Although both provide comparable online shopping experiences and complimentary shipping choices, deciding which subscription fits your needs can be tricky.
In this piece, we outline the costs, advantages and downsides of Amazon Prime and Walmart Plus so you can choose the subscription that suits you best.

What Walmart Plus Includes
Walmart Plus might be the newer option, but for $98 per year or $12.95 each month, it provides many features that compete with Amazon Prime. If you qualify for certain government assistance programs, you may be eligible for Walmart Plus Assist, which costs $49 a year or $6.47 monthly.

Free Next-Day or Two-Day Shipping
A Walmart Plus subscription gives you free next-day or two-day shipping on qualifying items sent by Walmart with no minimum purchase requirement.
For example, if you’re out of toothpaste or shaving cream, you can order just that one item without needing to add more to your cart to qualify for free shipping.
Up to 180,000 items qualify for free shipping — and that includes more than groceries. Eligible products cover select electronics, toys, apparel and more.
Grocery Delivery
With Walmart Plus, you can receive unlimited free same-day grocery delivery when you spend at least $35. (If you’re willing to pay $6.99, you can get same-day delivery on grocery ordersunder$35.)
Grocery delivery depends on availability in your region. With nearly 5,000 Walmart locations in the U.S., the service is probably offered near you, but you can verify availability for your address during enrollment.
Free same-day grocery delivery is also subject to local demand. Delivery windows are limited, and once they’re booked, you may need to schedule your delivery for the next day. For an extra charge, express delivery is available to receive your order within two hours.
There’s no price inflation on items with Walmart Plus grocery delivery. You pay the same low prices you’d see shopping in-person at Walmart stores.
Streaming Perks With Walmart Plus
Walmart teamed up with Paramount+ to offer Walmart Plus members an additional streaming perk. Is this meant to rival Amazon Prime Video? Possibly. But it’s appealing if you want to consolidate your streaming subscriptions.
With your Walmart Plus membership, you can sign up for a Paramount+ Essentials plan. That provides access to more than 45,000 TV episodes, films, originals and live sports. If you prefer an ad-free experience, you’ll need to pay extra to upgrade to a Paramount+SHOWTIME plan.
Fuel Savings and Additional Benefits
Walmart Plus members can save up to 10 cents per gallon when fueling up at Walmart, Exxon, Mobil or Murphy USA stations. You’ll also receive member pricing at Sam’s Club fuel sites without a Sam’s Club membership.
If you enjoy shopping in-store, you can scan items using the Walmart app and complete checkout on your phone with Walmart Pay. It’s a smooth, contactless checkout — no cashier necessary.
Other Walmart Plus advantages include early access to promotions, exclusive offers, game-console launches and prescription savings. You can even explore cash-back opportunities for qualifying travel bookings made through the Walmart+Travel portal.

What Amazon Prime Includes
Amazon Prime has existed for more than 15 years and boasts around 200 million members worldwide. You’ve likely heard of this service already.
The membership is priced at $139 per year or $14.99 monthly. It’s more expensive than Walmart Plus, but you receive a broad array of perks with this subscription.
One-Day Delivery
Prime subscribers can take advantage of free one-day shipping on millions of qualifying items with no minimum purchase threshold.
You may also be eligible for free same-day delivery on select items depending on when you order and where you live.
Depending on service availability, you can have packages delivered right into your garage. You can also arrange deliveries to arrive on a specific day of the week you choose.
Grocery Delivery
Although Amazon’s grocery reach isn’t as extensive as Walmart’s, you can get unlimited free grocery delivery with an Amazon Prime membership in certain cities for $9.99 per month.
Groceries are delivered via Amazon Fresh or Whole Foods Market, which Amazon owns, and can be delivered to your door in as little as two hours. The minimum purchase necessary for free two-hour delivery varies by location, but is typically $35 or $50.
It’s worth noting that Whole Foods and Amazon Fresh groceries often cost more than purchases from Walmart. However, Amazon recently introduced a budget-friendly line called Amazon Saver, with most products priced under $5.
Looking to eat in but skip cooking? Prime members receive a complimentary Grubhub+ membership, which means free delivery from many local restaurants.
Prime Entertainment and Extras
Amazon provides more options for streaming, gaming, music and photo storage. Prime Video offers a growing library of original and classic titles, and members can add channels like Discovery+, Paramount+, EPIX and others at reduced fees.
Adding Amazon Music Unlimited unlocks access to over 100 million tracks and leading podcasts for an extra $10.99 per month with Prime.
An Amazon Prime subscription also grants access to free gaming benefits and a selection of audiobooks through Prime Reading. Members receive unlimited photo storage, plus an additional 5GB of video storage via Amazon Photos.
Additional Amazon Prime Advantages
Like Walmart’s program, Amazon Prime members can take advantage of prescription discounts.
Students and people receiving government assistance can obtain a reduced-cost Amazon Prime subscription. A student plan is $7.49 per month, and those on qualifying government programs can get Prime for $6.99 per month.

Walmart Plus vs. Amazon Prime: Which Is the Better Value?
Now that we’ve reviewed the pros and cons of each service, you can better decide whether Walmart Plus or Amazon Prime fits your needs.
If price is your main factor, Walmart Plus will save you roughly $40 annually if you pay yearly, or about $2 a month if you opt for monthly billing.
However, if you want entertainment value from your membership, Amazon delivers more for your money by providing streaming of shows, movies and music along with complimentary audiobooks and gaming perks.
Amazon Prime members may also enjoy faster and more secure delivery choices, including same-day shipping and the option to have packages placed in the garage.
On the other hand, if you drive frequently, the fuel savings from Walmart Plus could be especially beneficial. Regular Walmart shoppers can also save time at checkout using the Scan & Go feature in stores.
Your ideal subscription ultimately depends on your personal habits and priorities. Geography might influence your decision if free grocery delivery is available from Walmart Plus but not from Amazon in your area.
Lucky for you, both Amazon Prime and Walmart Plus offer free trial periods. Try each service to see which membership works best for you.
