While many of us are still lamenting the closure of our favorite childhood toy shop, others are left holding unused gift cards and inactive registries.
But not all hope is gone for some of you.
Kmart has rolled out a new rewards option that converts your leftover Toys R Us and Babies R Us gift cards into FREECASH points that can be spent on in-store purchases.
That’s welcome news since Toys R Us ceased honoring gift cards on April 21.
Steps to Convert Your Toys R Us Gift Cards
The procedure is straightforward, but you must belong to Kmart’s Shop Your Way rewards program to take advantage of the offer.
You can sign up for the rewards program online or enroll at a store location.
After that, just bring your Toys R Us and/or Babies R Us gift cards to any Kmart customer service counter nationwide.
A staff member will sign you up for the exchange promotion and request that you complete a short survey.
When everything is complete, you’ll receive $10 in FREECASH credited to your rewards account. That credit can be applied to any in-store purchase over $10.
Kmart will accept even expired Toys R Us and Babies R Us gift cards.
Unfortunately, this is a one-time deal worth $10 FREECASH, no matter how many gift cards you present or how much value remains on each card.
Still, a ten-dollar credit beats having nothing at all.
The promotion runs through July 31, so don’t wait too long to act.
