The concept is straightforward: Purchase a Bottomless Mug Club membership, which includes the mug itself, and you’ll receive complimentary refills of drip coffee, tea or soda for the rest of 2017 and all of 2018.
Though the offer doesn’t apply to espresso-based drinks, smoothies or other specialty beverages, some Bruegger’s Bagels locations do honor it for hot chocolate and chai.
You are, however, limited to one free refill every 30 minutes. Fine print, right?
Clearly, this represents a huge opportunity for cheap caffeine.But exactly how valuable is the bottomless mug?
Let’s run the numbers. (Thankfully, I’m sufficiently caffeinated to handle basic multiplication — although my bottomless perk comes from the Savinly office kitchen. Thanks, Jordan!)
Depending on the bakery,the mug ranges from $149 to $209, with most spots charging about $185.
Prices for Bruegger’s drinks vary by location as well, but according to Fast Food Menu Prices, most small beverages included in the plan cost roughly $1.99 — before tax.
At that rate, if you purchased one small coffee every workday— assuming a five-day workweek, there are 261 workdays in 2018 — you’d spend $519.39, plus tax.
Meaning you’d pocket savings exceeding $300 on coffee in 2018, even if you bought the priciest mug.
That doesn’t account for the true caffeine devotees among you who, like me, might sip through a refill or three daily… and who don’t take coffee holidays.
Of course, if Bruegger’s isn’t your regular stop — or you only grab coffee occasionally — you may not recoup the cost.

Unsurprisingly,refills must be served in the official mug— you can’t just claim membership and use some other cup.

Lastly, Bruegger’s will offer no refunds unless it cancels your Bottomless Mug Club privileges, which it may do at its discretion.
The mugs are sold at participating bakeries through Jan. 31, 2018, or while supplies last.
