Lyft Is Offering Free and Discounted Rides for Unemployed Looking for Work

Lyft Jobs Access: Free & Discounted Rides

Hunting for employment can feel like a full-time job.

That effort grows even tougher if dependable or budget-friendly transportation isn’t available. You still have to reach interviews and training sessions, and those initial weeks on a new job come with commuting expenses before you see any money from your first paycheck.

To help address this barrier, the ride-hailing firm Lyft recently introduced its Jobs Access Program, offering complimentary and reduced-fare rides to interviews, job training, and workplaces for the initial three weeks of employment until new hires receive their first wages.

The initiative aims to support communities with the greatest transportation needs, including low-income individuals, veterans and people with disabilities.

Lyft Jobs Access will deliver this assistance through collaborations with nine nationwide nonprofit organizations:

  • United Way and 211
  • The USO
  • Goodwill
  • National Down Syndrome Society
  • Year Up
  • Generation
  • #cut50 (Dream Corps)
  • The Campaign for the Fair Sentencing of Youth
  • Upwardly Global

Lyft representative Miguel Bagsit explained that partner organizations will often incorporate these reduced-price rides into existing programs that help people gain transportation or employment support. The nonprofits will decide who qualifies and will distribute access to the special fares.

“Our partners are using their discretion to support the communities they serve,” Bagsit said.

The Lyft Jobs Access program is still in its initial rollout but is already operating in more than 30 areas, with the possibility of expanding into additional markets. At present, Lyft’s Jobs Access Program is offered in:
