Some people strain a muscle simply by rising from bed, while others can burst across a court, track, or field in a flash.
If you’re in that second camp — or you know someone who is — take a moment to pay attention.
Foot Locker is offering a $20,000 scholarship to each of 20 student-athletes who enroll in college in fall 2019.
Applicants should demonstrate academic achievement, leadership, and strong character and sportsmanship to be eligible for the Foot Locker scholarship.

Apply for a $20,000 Foot Locker Scholarship
Running may come easily to you, but paying for college is a different race — which is why this scholarship is worth applying for if you’re a high school athlete.
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Hold a 3.0 GPA or above.
- Be entering college as a freshman in fall 2019 to pursue an undergraduate degree at a four-year institution.
- Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
- Participate in high school, intramural, or community-based athletics.
- Not be employed by Foot Locker or have family ties to the company that would create a conflict.
An eligible student-athlete may also be nominated for the Foot Locker Scholar-Athlete program.
Applicants must complete an online application that asks for:
- Awards, recognitions, and leadership positions.
- Scores from SAT, ACT, PSAT, or ACT Plan.
- Extracurriculars and/or part-time employment.
- Two essays of 300–500 words each.
The first essay prompt is: “Sports teach important lessons in leadership, teamwork, and sportsmanship. How have you embodied these qualities on your team and in your community?”
The second prompt asks: “Describe a defining moment in your life that has helped to shape your dreams and plans for the future.”
The application deadline is 5 p.m. EST on Dec. 14, 2018.
After submitting the Foot Locker scholarship application, selected candidates will be invited to participate in a video-chat interview.
Winners will be revealed in April 2019.
One of the 20 recipients will get an extra $5,000 (bringing the total to $25,000) via the Ken C. Hicks scholarship, which honors exceptional achievement in academics, leadership, and athletics.
