Amazon can be a real lifesaver. You can uncover solid bargains and have the items you need or want delivered straight to your home.
When you’re a new parent juggling household chores while feeding, bathing and changing an infant, that kind of convenience feels even more valuable. It’s the savings, though, that truly impress.
Until recently, parents with Prime who ordered diapers through Amazon could enjoy a substantial 20% discount simply by enrolling in its monthly subscription service.
For example, a 216-count box of Pampers diapers retails for $40.84. A 20% saving on that essential box would trim $8.17 off your monthly bill. That’s nearly $98 over the course of a year.
Unfortunately for many families, that easy saving period has ended. Amazon has updated its subscription rules, and the change could pinch parents’ budgets.
Buy More to Save More (Sort Of)
Amazon’s revised policy still permits Prime members to claim the 20% discount on diaper and baby food subscriptions, but it now requires purchasing more items for that discount to apply. Here’s the wording from Amazon Family:
“Amazon Prime members unlock 20% savings on diapers and baby food subscriptions when receiving 5 or more products in a given month to a single address, compliments of Amazon Family. Amazon Family also provides special offers and age-based recommendations to Prime members with young children.”
So rather than simply receiving 20% off your diaper subscription, you must subscribe to an additional four products. Baby food, wipes, diaper cream and laundry soap, perhaps?
It’s up to each household to determine whether the new requirement will truly reduce expenses across multiple essentials, or simply lead to purchasing more items than are genuinely necessary.
