College juniors and seniors: Do grammar and spelling come naturally to you? Do you prize precise wording and flawless copy?

If that sounds like you, the scholarships offered by the ACES Education Fund could be a great fit.

ACES: The Society for Editing is awarding six scholarships to students intent on pursuing editorial work with written content. Awards range from $1,500 to $3,000, along with support to attend the national ACES conference.

Which ACES Scholarships Are Offered?

The ACES Education Fund’s Bill Walsh scholarship grants $3,000 to the recipient, in addition to assistance to attend the ACES national conference. The award commemorates the veteran Washington Post copy editor Bill Walsh, who passed away in 2017.

The winner should be an aspiring newsroom editor who demonstrates the skill and dedication to the profession that Walsh exemplified, per ACES criteria.

The ACES Aubespin scholarship awards $2,500 to the top recipient and $1,500 to four runners-up. Those chosen must demonstrate a strong commitment to an editorial career.

This scholarship honors Merv Aubespin, a retired artist, reporter and editor at the Courier-Journal in Louisville, Kentucky, and a former president of the National Association of Black Journalists.

Applicants may apply for both the Bill Walsh and Aubespin scholarships but may receive only one award.
