I know you’re racing to your computer to place an order for the brand-new Barbie.
Oh, didn’t you catch the news? Barbie now comes in a new set of body types. Actually, there are three fresh body styles.
Now sold on Mattel.com, Barbie dolls will be offered not only in the Original — much discussed — version, but also in “Curvy,” “Tall” and “Petite.”
Barbie has been a popular toy for children since her 1959 debut, in part because she’s priced affordably.
The new Barbie dolls are listed on Mattel for $9.99 — but we’ll show you how to score one for only $4.34
Cut Costs on Barbie with Deal-Stacking
These dolls are brand-new, so don’t expect to find them on clearance, deeply discounted on Amazon or part of many coupon promotions yet.
That doesn’t mean you must pay full price, though!
At Savinly, we know a good bargain can usually be nudged into something even sweeter.
One of the most effective tactics is deal-stacking — lowering a price by layering as many discounts, promos, coupons and perks as possible when you check out.
Here’s how to shrink the cost of your new Barbie doll.
1. Buy on Mattel.com via a Cash-Back Portal
Tall, Petite and Curvy Barbie are currently sold only on Mattel’s site, so you’ll need to order online.
The smartest move for online purchases is to go through a cash-back portal, also called a shopping site.
You click through a retailer’s link on the cash-back site, shop as usual and earn a percentage back in rewards you can redeem for cash or gift cards.
We usually begin with Cashbackholic, which lists which sites are offering the top cash-back percentages for the retailer you want. Offers change often, so always compare before buying.
Right now, Mr. Rebates is offering 5% cash back on purchases at Mattel.com when you go through their portal. Plus, new members can get a $5 sign-up bonus.
That’s $5.50 in rewards!
2. Get Free Shipping from Mattel.com
We despise when shipping fees wipe out our savings.
You have several routes to free shipping for the new Barbie doll, though none are flawless.
We spotted this Groupon offer for free shipping at Mattel.com. However, you must shop via the Groupon link, which means you can’t combine that deal and use the cash-back portal above.
Estimated standard shipping is $7.49, so if you’re buying one, two or three dolls, the Groupon route may be the best option.
Mattel provides free shipping on orders of $35 or more, so if you purchase at least four dolls, you’re better off using the cash-back site. You avoid shipping charges and you’ll receive about $7 in cash-back rewards.
Not a bad way to get a head start on birthdays and holiday gift-buying!
We also discovered a coupon code for complimentary shipping at Mattel you can try: BDAYBASH
Some shoppers have reported success with that code, although it didn’t work for me today. To save $7.49, it’s definitely worth attempting!
3. Use a Cash-Back Rewards Credit Card
Charge your purchase to a rewards credit card and you’ll stack even more cash back on top of your portal earnings.
One card we like is the Chase Freedom Unlimited. Its highlight? You earn an unlimited 1.5% cash back on all purchases. Plus, if you spend $500 in the first three months after opening the account (think groceries), you’ll receive a $150 bonus.
There’s no annual fee, and the cash-back doesn’t expire. We used Credible’s annual rewards calculator, which estimates $417 in yearly rewards based on sample spending.* (You can input your own spending to see your potential earnings.)
Sign up — and get 0% introductory APR for 15 months — here.
That’s roughly another $0.10 in cash back per doll.
