The 6 Best Gas Rewards Programs

Looking for lower gas costs? Here’s a rundown of the best fuel reward plans, plus a few extra suggestions for using free gas-price apps to stretch your savings further.

1. BP Earnify

BP updated its reward offering in October 2024 with Earnify, which replaced the prior BPme program. While the old plan could deliver up to 10 cents off per gallon in some cases, the typical immediate discount under Earnify is 5 cents per gallon at BP and Amoco locations.

To use it, install the app and create an account. Activate the app right before you fill up at a BP station — the discount applies instantly. You’ll receive 5 cents off per gallon at BP and Amoco pumps nationwide.

In 2023 BP removed ongoing activity requirements to maintain the 5-cent savings. Now you simply need to use the app when you purchase fuel to keep the discount active.

Like many programs, Earnify also uses a point-earn structure that can be exchanged for snacks, drinks and other items at BP locations.

2. Exxon Mobil Rewards+

After leaving the Plenti program, Exxon Mobil launched its own plan, Exxon Mobil Rewards+, which ranks among the notable gas rewards choices.

This point-based program gives 3 cents in points per gallon on fuel purchases, plus 2 cents per dollar spent on qualifying items like car washes and convenience-store purchases. Exclusions typically include lottery, cash back and gift cards.

If you buy Exxon Mobil Synergy Supreme+ premium fuel, you can earn an extra 3 cents per gallon in points, if you pump 8 gallons on three separate occasions within a month.

AARP members automatically receive an additional 1 cent per gallon and 1 cent per dollar in-store. You’ll also get a 500-point sign-up bonus and can earn double points on select AARP Member Days — a solid senior benefit.

Pump more than 100 gallons a month and you qualify as a Frequent Filler, which adds another 1 cent per gallon and 2 cents per dollar spent in-store.

Altogether, the program can net up to 8 cents in points per gallon and 5 cents per store dollar under optimal conditions.

Points are redeemable on fuel, car washes and store purchases, with 100 points equaling $1 off.

For example, if you have a 10-gallon tank and earn 3 points per gallon, you’ll need to fill up just over three times to collect enough points for a $1 discount — a reasonable pace. Add in points from car washes and in-store buys and the savings stack up even more.

Use the Exxon Mobil Rewards+ app to monitor rewards on Android and iPhone. You can even pay at the pump via the app instead of using a physical card or card reader.

3. Maverik Adventure Club and Nitro Cards

Operating across several Northwestern states, Maverik runs its own fuel rewards through the Maverik Adventure Club, which includes two program options: the Adventure Club and the Nitro card. See details here.

The Adventure Club provides 2 cents off per gallon on fuel purchases. Members earn Trail Points on fuel and qualifying in-store purchases, excluding gift cards, cashback and age-restricted items.

Trail Points can be redeemed for store merchandise or entered into prize drawings.

The Nitro card bundles the same base perks plus extras: 10 cents off the posted credit price per gallon, 4x Trail Points on purchases, 1 Trail Point per gallon pumped, $1 large hot beverages daily, and $1 fountain drinks and refills up to extra-large.

Nitro BestPrice continuously checks local advertised prices. If a competitor has a lower posted price and you pay with a Nitro card, Maverik will match that lower rate. (Keep in mind some stations, like BP, may charge for similar monitoring services.)

The primary distinction is the Nitro card must be linked to your checking account and used to pay to receive fuel discounts and earn points.

Although you pay with the Nitro card, it isn’t a traditional credit card — it functions more like a bank-linked ACH card that draws directly from your account.

Track Adventure Club rewards via the loyalty site or the free app for Android and iPhone.

At the moment, Maverik is offering a sign-up bonus: a complimentary fountain drink for new Adventure Club registrants.

4. Pilot Flying J Preferred Customer Rewards

Pilot Flying J’s rewards are tailored for professional drivers and RV travelers. If you haul loads for a living or are touring in an RV — or simply log high mileage — enroll in the myRewards Plus app.

With myRewards Plus, you earn points for fuel and in-store purchases that can be redeemed later (typical exclusions include lottery, cash back and gift cards). You’ll also receive special recognition during your birthday month.

Plus, the program currently offers a 5-cent-per-gallon sign-up discount “until further notice,” according to the provider — so claim it while it’s available.

Drivers who work professionally or travel in RVs get additional perks such as shower credits, reservable mobile showers, on-site mobile fueling and a beverage club. Pro drivers can earn up to 4 points per gallon after six qualifying fills through thePushForPoints program.

Active-duty military, veterans and immediate family members can receive a 10% discount on food and drinks with an ID.me verification.

The app also helps you monitor receipts and locate fuel prices. There’s no annual fee to join this fuel-savings program.

Note: You can use a physical myRewards card, but the app provides added features and benefits.

5. Shell Fuel Rewards

Shell Fuel Rewards uses a three-tier system: Silver saves 3 cents per gallon; Gold saves 5 cents per gallon; and Platinum saves 10 cents per gallon.

New members receive Gold Status automatically for the first six full calendar months. To keep Gold, you need to fill up six times with at least 10 gallons every three months. If you maintain Gold, this becomes one of the stronger programs available.

Platinum is Shell’s top tier. If you fuel 12 times with 10 gallons or more in a three-month period, you reach Platinum — that grants 10 cents off per gallon, double rewards on select in-store items and access to exclusive VIP perks.

Shell also offers stackable savings you can add to your status, such as 5 cents off per gallon for every $50 you spend shopping online, 10 cents off per $50 spent dining at participating restaurants and 10 cents off per $50 on rental cars.

For instance, if you have Gold and then rack up another 25 cents off from online shopping and 10 cents off from dining, you could see a combined 40-cent discount per gallon on your next fill-up up to 20 gallons.

You can earn further discounts via featured promotions.

To use the Link & Save feature, you must opt in and connect a credit or debit card to your account so your purchases automatically apply.

Shell also partners with grocery chains to let shoppers earn fuel discounts by buying groceries and redeeming those savings at Shell pumps.

Shell’s supermarket partners include a long list of nationwide grocers such as Dillons, Food 4 Less, Fred Meyer, Fry’s, Giant, Homeland, HyVee, Jay C, Kroger, King Soopers and City Market, PayLess, QFC, Ralphs, Stop & Shop and Smith’s.

There is no annual cost to participate in this program.

6. Speedway Speedy Rewards

Like Shell, Speedway Speedy Rewards offers numerous ways to save and provides a free mobile app to manage it all. It’s arguably one of the strongest programs on this list.

Speedy Rewards members earn 10 points per gallon at the pump and 20 points per dollar spent in-store, plus bonus points on select items.

For rewards, 1,250 points can get you free snacks or drinks, while 5,500 points might score a whole large pizza (or 1,350 points for a single hot slice). You can also redeem points for gift cards.

To get fuel discounts, 1,750 points equals 10 cents off per gallon.

Joining a Speedy Rewards Club boosts free offerings. Buy one qualifying club item and you’re enrolled.

Clubs include options for car washes, beverages and more. For example, people who frequent car washes can earn a free wash after buying six, while beverage lovers can get a reward after six purchases — choices include a free drink, 1,000 bonus points or 10 cents off fuel.

There are many club choices — from doughnuts to gaming cards — each with similar “buy six, earn one” reward structures.

Use Apps to Find the Cheapest Gas

Even if you’re enrolled in station-specific reward plans, you may not always be near your usual brand while traveling. Use apps and sites that report local pump prices so you can find the lowest nearby rates. Popular options include Upside, GasBuddy and Waze.

Fuel costs often change across state lines, so map out where prices are lower on longer trips. Avoid stations right off highway exits or in central city spots — those locations usually charge more than slightly out-of-the-way stations. Smart planning is key to finding the cheapest gas, especially on the road.
