Free Jetblue Wifi — Fly-Fi On Every Domestic Flight

Here’s something to keep in mind when planning your trips this year: JetBlue now provides free in-flight Wi-Fi on every domestic route.

JetBlue recently revealed that it has completed the deployment of its “always-free and fast” in-flight Wi-Fi across its full fleet of 227 aircraft in the United States.

“We’re the only airline offering complimentary, high-speed Wi-Fi, live TV and movies to all customers on every airplane,” said Jamie Perry, vice president of marketing at JetBlue.

Most other U.S. carriers still charge to use Wi-Fi while airborne. American Airlines and Delta sell day passes for around $16, while Southwest prices access at $8 per device.

Internet Access from the Moment You Step Aboard

Named Fly-Fi (because, well, obvious), this Wi-Fi offering works from gate-to-gate, so passengers don’t have to wait until the aircraft reaches cruising altitude to get online.

In short, travelers can use their gadgets as soon as they board the aircraft.

No more flipping through those seat-back pamphlets while you taxi — just hop on, stow your bag, and start replying to messages (after you politely navigate past that stubborn aisle neighbor, of course).

JetBlue advertises speeds up to 20 Mbps per device — notable given there can be well over 200 connected devices at once.

Everything you typically do online (tweet, post, upload, stream — even order groceries so they’re ready when you land) is now possible during your flight.

Passengers can stream Amazon Video to their screens and even earn points for every qualifying dollar spent on Amazon while aloft.

Additional In-Flight Extras

JetBlue also highlights a range of other onboard amenities, such as 36 channels of complimentary DIRECTV, audio/video-on-demand touchscreens with top films and crew recommendations, more legroom, plus complimentary snacks and beverages.

JetBlue appears to be setting a consumer-friendly trend — and it’s reasonable to wonder whether other airlines will follow this lead. A roomier flight where I can binge my favorite shows while munching on free snacks?

Your Turn: What in-flight feature would you most like more airlines to provide?
