Dollar Tree Will Soon Offer $7 Items

Dollar Tree Raising Its Prices — $7 Items Coming

Budget-minded shoppers are about to face another change at one of the nation’s most frequented discount chains — Dollar Tree. CEO Rick Dreiling revealed during a fourth-quarter earnings call in March 2024 that the retailer will implement another round of price increases. Dollar Tree’s decision to raise prices again means certain products could reach up to $7 by year’s end.

Dreiling described the move as a way to broaden product selection and attract a wider customer base. Yet the retailer, which also operates Family Dollar, has gradually moved away from the single-price concept that built its reputation.

When Will Dollar Tree Increase Prices?

Dreiling explained the adjustments are part of a “multi-price expansion strategy” designed to provide shoppers with a greater assortment — which the company markets under the “More Choices” label.

Shoppers may recall Dollar Tree’s earlier shift to $1.25 pricing in 2021. Since then, the chain has introduced $3, $4 and $5 priced items in roughly 6,500 locations as part of the More Choices campaign. The newest change will add hundreds more products priced between $1.50 and $7. These items will be stocked across about 3,000 stores, though Dreiling didn’t specify which stores or provide a firm timeline for rollout.

While price increases are rarely welcomed, Dreiling emphasized that most merchandise will remain at the lower price tiers.

Do Any Real ‘Dollar Stores’ Still Exist?

Dollar Tree’s upcoming price hikes might prompt you to hunt for other dollar-style retailers where you can spend your dollar bills. In fact, Dollar Tree stopped offering everything for a dollar back in 2019. Many similar chains have followed suit. Retailers like Dollar General and Family Dollar still sell $1 items, but not everything is priced at that level. Dollar General, for instance, maintains a segment on its site called Dollar Deals so shoppers can quickly find lower-cost options.
