From my own efforts to stretch a tight budget during the early years of parenthood, I’ve learned that lots of baby gear pitched to caregivers isn’t strictly essential.
Diapers, on the other hand, are absolutely indispensable.
Unless you’ve inherited a stash of cloth nappies or your child is toilet-training prodigy, the smartest route to cut costs on diapers is to hunt down every bargain you can uncover.
The grocery retailer Lidl is running a one-week promotion offering 50% off its private-label diapers. The sale begins Thursday, March 15, and continues through Wednesday, March 21.
This promotion covers size 2 packs (designed for infants about 12 to 18 pounds) through size 6 packs (for toddlers around 35 pounds and up). The sale prices drop to as low as $2.04 for a 44-count pack of size 2 diapers — under 5 cents per diaper!
The priciest option during the sale is $3.18 for a 44-pack of size 5 diapers.
Lidl’s in-house diapers already tend to be cheaper than big-name options like Huggies and Luvs. Parents who stock up during this event can effectively get two packs for the price they’d normally pay for one.
Shoppers can also take advantage of additional related discounts from March 15 through March 21. A selection of Lidl baby food, baby snacks, wipes and formula will be 30% off. Lidl’s “surprises” area, which rotates weekly with limited-quantity items, will include Lupilu baby clothing and Nuby baby gear starting at just under $2.
For parents who prefer reusable options, consider affordable alternatives like cloth diapers for cheap to save even more over time.
