In-N-Out Burger, the beloved West Coast quick-service chain, has quietly introduced hot cocoa to its offerings — marking the first new permanent menu item in more than ten years. The last time the chain expanded its famously minimal menu was when lemonade returned in the early 2000s.
The newly launched drink is prepared with cocoa powder from Ghirardelli Chocolate Co., another California-based business, and is priced at $1.60 for an 8-ounce serving or $2.65 for a 16-ounce cup, according to a customer service representative. As always, local outlets may set slightly different prices.
Making the debut even more delightful, In-N-Out is running a promotion that gives youngsters a complimentary cup of this warm treat on rainy days.
When It Rains, It Pours… Hot Cocoa

Kids, start perfecting your rain dances. When it rains, it pours… free hot cocoa at In-N-Out Burger for children 12 and under. Those dreary, wet afternoons now come with an added sugary perk for the little ones.
Do note that the youngsters must be present to receive the complimentary drink. That means you can’t leave the clan at home while someone else pops into In-N-Out to fill every cup holder with steaming, chocolatey goodness. One nice detail: there’s no expiration date on this perk.
In-N-Out hasn’t specified the exact size of the free cup, so offerings could differ across restaurants.
We’ll raise our cups to this no-strings-attached treat and try not to envy the lucky customers in California, Texas, Oregon, Arizona, Nevada and Utah.
So the next time the skies open up, don’t wait for the weather to clear. Slip on your rain boots and dash to a participating In-N-Out near you — and while you’re there consider checking out inexpensive ways to celebrate fathers day for more budget-friendly fun ideas.
