Heading home for the holidays is something I eagerly anticipate each year. This December, however, marks the first time I’m flying home to visit family instead of driving or taking the train.
That raises the inevitable question: who will come pick me up from the airport? Don’t all volunteer at once.
There’s an alternate solution that can make life easier for many families — and spare a few bouts of road rage — during the holiday rush.
American Express cardholders can get complimentary Uber rides from major airports. Signing up takes only a few seconds, and the offer is valid through Dec. 31.
How to Redeem 2 Complimentary Uber Rides From the Airport
It’s very simple to activate this promotion.
- Add the code AMEXAIRPORT to the “Promotions” section in your Uber app.
- If your American Express card isn’t already saved in Uber, add it as your payment method.
- Open the app and request a ride from one of these participating airports:
New York City: LaGuardia, JFK or Newark
Chicago: O’Hare or Midway
Seattle: Seattle–Tacoma
Boston: Boston Logan
Las Vegas: McCarran
Houston: George Bush Intercontinental
Washington, D.C.: Reagan National or Dulles
This promotion covers two rides of up to $65 each at no charge. If a trip costs more than $65, you’ll receive a $65 credit toward that fare and be responsible for the remainder.
For maximum value, here’s hoping your itinerary pairs two long trips — like New York to Houston or D.C. to Seattle — so you can use both complimentary rides.
The offer applies to all Uber services, including premium black car options.
If you have an American Express card, there’s little reason not to take advantage of this deal. Just know one thing won’t change: when you arrive hauling luggage, your dad will still ask, “What’s all that? Are you moving back in?”
