If you purchased a Samsung top-load washing machine between March 2011 and the present year, your unit might be part of a recall. If it is, you may be eligible for financial help toward replacing the washer.
This voluntary recall responds to reports of severe vibration that can cause the washer’s lid assembly to separate from the cabinet during the spin cycle — creating a potential safety risk for users.
How This Samsung Washer Recall Works
Enter your model and serial number on Samsung’s recall page to determine whether your machine is included in the recall.
If your model appears on the list, you have three choices:
1. Repair
Arrange a complimentary in-home repair to fix the problem. Along with the repair, Samsung will extend your washer’s manufacturer warranty by one year, regardless of the machine’s current age.
Samsung advises using the delicate cycle for bulky loads until your unit has been repaired.
2. Rebate
Opt for a rebate to put toward purchasing a new washer — the replacement does not need to be a Samsung product.
The rebate amount depends on your recalled washer’s model and age, and it covers installation of the new unit as well as removal of the old one. If you decide to buy another Samsung washer, you may receive up to an extra $150.
Consumer Reports reports these washers originally retailed for roughly $450 to $1,500 at large appliance sellers. Commenters on that page say they were offered rebates ranging from about $200 to $775 for their recalled machines.
3. Return
If you bought your washer within 30 days prior to the recall announcement on Nov. 4, 2016, you can take it back to the retailer where you purchased it for a complete refund.
