Celebrities from movie stars to pro athletes often earn millions. That doesn’t mean they all spend like it.
Some of them use coupons. The celebrities below have publicly admitted to couponing and are happy to share their thrifty habits.
For a number of famous folks, clipping coupons comes from modest roots. For others, it’s simply an appreciation for getting value from every dollar, even when you’ve already made a fortune.
Like most consumers, the wealthy sometimes reserve coupons for particular purchases. Some favor coupons for groceries and dining out, while others use them for everything from home goods at Bed, Bath & Beyond.
Here are several well-known coupon users.
1. Carmelo Anthony
NBA player Carmelo Anthony, formerly with the New York Knicks, told CBS Denver that shoppers are often surprised when they spot him using coupons:
“I go to the supermarket, make sure I get the newspaper and tear the coupons out; save a dollar or two. … I’m human too,” he said.
2. Kristen Bell
Actress Kristen Bell told Conan O’Brien on his show “Conan” that she’s “very frugal.”
“I use a lot of coupons. I almost exclusively shop with coupons.”
Her go-to coupon is Bed, Bath & Beyond’s 20% off mail offer. (You can also sign up for theirs here.)

Actress Sarah Michelle Gellar told Self magazine that she and husband Freddie Prinze Jr. hunt sales and use coupons regularly:

5. Tim Hasselbeck
When the women on “The View” debated men who use coupons on dates, then-host Elisabeth Hasselbeck defended her spouse, retired NFL quarterback Tim Hasselbeck:
“I married a coupon guy. In the long term, he is so on top of things. He’s very aware of what things cost and what it means to our situation, and I thank him for that.”
6. Roy Hibbert
NBA player Roy Hibbert, now with the Los Angeles Lakers, told “The Dan Le Batard Show” that couponing is part of his modest lifestyle.
“Going to restaurants, I make sure if I have a coupon, I use it. I try to live like I’m a normal person,” he said, according to a transcript on SportsRadioInterviews.com.
Hibbert mentioned he gets his coupons from the newspaper.
7. Kourtney Kardashian
Reality star Kourtney Kardashian was once filmed rifling through coupons on “Kourtney & Kim Take New York.”
She explained on her site how it started:
“Khloe [Kardashian] got me addicted to coupons after watching ‘Extreme Couponing.’ Nothing like a fun shopping adventure to feed my addiction.”
8. Hilary Swank
Actress Hilary Swank told Regis Philbin and Kelly Ripa on “Live With Regis and Kelly” that couponing is second nature:
“When you open up the paper and see those coupons, it looks like dollar bills staring you in the face. … It’s how I grew up, and why not?”
9. Tiffani Thiessen
Actress Tiffani Thiessen, who got her start on “Saved by the Bell,” told Krazy Coupon Lady that her mom clipped coupons while she was growing up. She uses them “all the time” when she remembers.
Thiessen said she’s happy to use coupons to buy wholesome food — when she isn’t harvesting from her own garden or visiting the farmers market.
10. Carrie Underwood
Country star Carrie Underwood clips coupons for her grocery runs.
“I stock up on stir-fry kits, Amy’s meatless burgers, and armloads of onions and garlic,” she told EveryDay with Rachael Ray. “I put onions and garlic in everything.”
She also admitted she often forgets to bring her coupons.
