5 Strategies to Score the Best Amazon Prime Day Discounts
This year’s Prime Days run July 8–11, stretching beyond the usual two-day window — but that doesn’t mean you can wait until the last minute.
Early markdowns on electronics and select Amazon gadgets have already started, and deals will continue rolling out until the official Prime Day kickoff.
If you use Alexa, it’s even easier to overspend on Amazon.
Prime members can add items to their wish list, cart or save for later, then ask Alexa to alert them when the price drops. Amazon’s voice assistant can even place orders automatically if you give it permission.
These steep reductions are limited in quantity, so you’ll want to move quickly to grab a deal that catches your eye. If you miss out, you can join a waitlist to be notified should additional stock become available.
Here are ways to make the most of these tempting sale days.
1. Try an Amazon Prime Free Trial
If you haven’t been an Amazon Prime subscriber in the past year, sign up for a 30-day free Prime trial and participate in Prime Day before deciding whether to keep the membership.
Students and some people who receive government benefits may qualify for a discounted annual plan.
2. Create a Shopping Plan
Just because an item is marked down with free shipping doesn’t mean it’s necessary.
If you intend to buy particular things or upgrade existing gear, list them out. Refer to that list during Prime Day to confirm that the items in your cart are smart purchases rather than impulse buys you’ll regret later.
You can also save products to an Amazon wish list to more easily spot when discounts show up during the sales period.
Plus, you can opt in to deal alerts tied to your recent Amazon searches and items you’ve viewed.
Open the Amazon app before July 8 to set up deal alerts. When Prime Day begins, you’ll receive push notifications about available offers.
3. Monitor Lightning Deals
Certain promotions are live only for a short span. Watch for these time-limited offers and move quickly if you see a lightning deal on something from your wish list.
4. Check Past Prices to Confirm a Real Bargain
Some sellers raise prices ahead of sale events so a discount appears more impressive — when in reality you’re paying a normal price.
Be a discerning buyer and use a price-tracking tool like CamelCamelCamel to view an item’s historical Amazon price fluctuations.
