Yipit
Yipit aggregates offers from a wide array of deal sites, from major players like Groupon and LivingSocial to niche sources such as Gilt City for upscale items and DoodleDeals for parents.
The website and iPhone app highlight “trending” deals and pin the hottest offers at the top of the page. Search by location, category or price, and consult the included Yelp reviews to aid your decision. A customizable recommendation engine proposes items you might like — massages in your postal area or dance-based fitness classes, for example.
Yipit emails you daily with deals it predicts you’ll appreciate, based on your prior searches. Because it compiles various data, the site asks you to create an account.
Dealery
While many aggregators concentrate on local bargains, Dealery takes a broader approach by also featuring nationwide deals, such as seasonal picks for cold-weather gear or autumn fashion. Browse without signing up, or register for a daily email to receive both city-specific and national promotions.
Dealery also differentiates itself by producing its own merchandise, like a short-run Charlie Sheen-inspired #winning t-shirt offered recently. It doesn’t yet offer a mobile application.
Dealupa
To view deals on Dealupa you’ll need to provide your email and zip code. The site also prompts you to complete a brief survey so it knows what interests you — from cupcakes to home repair services.
It then serves up deals aligned with your tastes using a patent-pending dealrank algorithm — similar in spirit to Google’s page ranking, but applied to bargains. If that sounds technical, it is: Dealupa debuted in 2012 as one of several Silicon Valley startups cultivated by the Y Combinator incubator.
Filter deals by location, price, popularity and how closely they match your preferences. The dealrank system also scans Twitter and Facebook data to build a snapshot of what’s trending at any moment — about 700 to 800 deals per city. There’s no mobile app yet, but it’s likely forthcoming.
Blue Kangaroo
Blue Kangaroo goes past flash sales to personalize shopping selections to your likes. The site gathers discounts from major brand stores, local daily deals, flash events and heavy discounters, flagging the offers you’re most apt to enjoy. It positions itself as a virtual personal shopper, searching out deals tailored to you.
Besides letting you search by city, Blue Kangaroo asks you to hunt for a particular product — for example, women’s shoes — and then returns deals on that item, from a Steve Madden markdown to a Bluefly flash promotion.
You can browse without logging in, and free apps are available for both iPhone and Android.
